Welcome to the official website of Janet Pfeiffer, PhD (Clinical Nutrition), M.Sc (Alternative Medicine), Master Herbalist and Digestive Health Specialist.
What does wellness mean to you? Good health is a term that is difficult to define – But I like the way the World Health Organization defines it as “a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” This definition stretches well beyond the absence of illness. My aim in my website, books and clinical practice is helping people attain a higher level of health – in all states. And, more often than not, good health begins in the gut. Some 2000 years ago, Hippocrates wrote – “All disease begins in the gut” – and modern medicine is becoming increasingly aware of this in the 21st century. Nutrition is my passion – I hope you will join me on this journey to let food be your medicine. Quality of life begins with the quality of foods that sustain it. I hope to provide you with well-researched health and nutrition advice – no hype, just the facts. The mass media constantly bombards us with conflicting advice and exaggerated headlines. Health is a multi-billion-dollar industry, so often compromised by self-interest – be it from medical, pharmaceutical or alternative sources. Even as a scientist, it can be difficult to know what to believe – hence, the often conflicting opinions. Within these pages, it’s my aim to bring you practical, proven and common-sense advice to help you overcome the plethora of digestive related complaints that afflict millions around the globe … IBS, colitis, acid reflux, hemorrhoids, crohn’s, constipation, diarrhea, bloating, ulcers, diverticulitis and everyday “stomach ache”… to name just a few. These are some of the most common illnesses on the market today – and they’re also among the most misunderstood and over-prescribed. And if you’re one of the millions affected by digestive diseases, I hope to offer you the benefit of my 30-plus years experience in the fields of gastroenterology, nutrition and natural therapies. I’m so accustomed to talking about digestive problems that it doesn’t much bother me anymore – but I know that anything from the tummy down rates close to a 10 on the squeamish and embarrassment scale for most of you. So, I’ll be giving you the low-down on the “low down” – everything you wish you could ask your health professional if only you knew what it is you really need to be asking … because when it comes to curing digestive complaints and improving your health through nutrition, knowledge is the best medicine.
